After the risk in Alberta changed from low to undefined on March 16, and with the exponential increase of COVID-19 cases in the province, urgent action was required to protect the health and safety of our staff and members, to do our part to flatten the curve, and for the stability and longevity of our business. As a result, we took the abrupt but necessary steps of voluntarily closing our clubs and temporarily laying off club staff. Due to the challenging Alberta market and the immediate action we had to take, we were unfortunately not able to give staff notice in these circumstances. These decisions were difficult and I assure you that we are working hard on a better outcome for our staff in the coming days. In the meantime, employees will continue to have access to their benefits and mental health support.

To continue supporting the physical and mental health of our members, we will be offering remote fitness services which we will announce in more detail tomorrow. Exclusively for members who continue with their regular dues, we will be offering a loyalty incentive. If these options do not work for you, we will freeze your dues at no cost. As you can imagine, the current volume of inquiries is extraordinary, and we will work to action your preference as quickly as possible. Our gyms may be large, but we are a relatively small Alberta-based company and we appreciate your support, patience, and understanding through these troubling times.

In the interest of all Albertans, I want to take this opportunity to urge you to remind your friends and loved ones to stay home as much as possible and follow the advice of health authorities and the government to slow the spread of COVID-19 while we still have time.

Why did you close your clubs?

After monitoring the progression of the COVID-19 outbreak in Alberta and taking intensive preventative measures, we decided to temporarily close all locations and boutique studios in

Calgary and Edmonton on March 17. Shortly afterwards, the Government of Alberta mandated that all fitness clubs in the province were to close.

We will reopen after the Government of Alberta deems it safe for us to do so.

Are you automatically freezing memberships?

We wanted our members to have options. Instead of automatically freezing memberships we’re letting our members choose between freezing their membership at no cost or opting into our Member Incentive program.
