It’s official — gyms have the go-ahead to open for low-intensity fitness! With your safety top of mind, we’re working fast to implement the updated guidelines and refresh our teams on all safety protocols to keep you safe.
 

Our doors will finally reopen bright and early on Thursday, March 4 at 5:00 a.m. (West Edmonton Mall club at 6:00 a.m.) at all 18 GYMVMT and HER GYMVMT clubs in Calgary and Edmonton. 

Low-intensity Group Fitness classes will resume on Monday, March 8.

MEMBERSHIP FREEZES

  • If your account is currently on a complimentary closure freeze, your membership will be automatically reinstated on March 4, 2021, and billing will be pro-rated from that date until your next dues billing date.  
  • If you are not quite ready to join us in the club at this time, please complete the form below and someone from our team will reach out to you.  
  • If your account is currently on a paid or medical freeze, your membership will remain on freeze until the agreed upon date on your account and will not resume billing on March 4, 2021.  
  • If you paid to freeze your membership and are now thinking about hitting the gym again, you can receive a credit of up to $50 when you reinstate your membership dues by Wednesday, March 17, 2021! 

If your membership remained active and dues were paid between December 13 and January 1, 2021, before memberships were automatically frozen, 3 gift certificates will be automatically applied to your account as a thank-you for supporting our local business.  

Gift certificates can be redeemed for one of the following options:  

  • Three 1-month memberships to give to a friend or family member   
  • Three 45-minute personal training sessions with an introductory-level trainer 
  • One 60-minute private personal training session (for current personal training clients only) 
  • One GYMVMT or HER GYMVMT gym bag (while quantities last)

Spick and Span

  • Our dedicated housekeeping team and club staff work in tandem to clean and disinfect our clubs  
  • We pay close attention to high-tough surfaces by disinfecting them throughout the day 
  • Protect yourself and others, please disinfect equipment, lockers, and water nozzles before and after use with supplied disinfectant wipes 
  • Certainty disinfectant wipes are available throughout the gym floor, which kill 99.9% of germs, viruses, and fungi from all hard, non-porous surfaces — and they’re also certified by Health Canada. 
  • Our team disinfects the club frequently, focusing on popular equipment and high-touch areas  
  • Personal trainers disinfect all equipment for their clients before and after use
  • Group Fitness instructors disinfect all equipment with Vert2Go SABER Heavy-Duty Disinfectant and mop floors after each class  
  • You’ll also find increased equipment disinfecting wipe stations 
  • High-touch surfaces in the shower areas are disinfected every 75-minute time block  
  • Showers will be thoroughly disinfected nightly with Sabre Disinfectant – rated by Health Canada as effective against COVID-19  
  • Towels are kept at front desk and handed to members with clean hands  
  • The employee working the front desk will sanitize their hands between handing out each towel  
  • Team members who handle used towels wear gloves, and change to a new pair of gloves before handling clean towels
  • Certainty disinfectant wipes are available throughout the gym floor, which kill 99.9% of germs, viruses, and fungi from all hard, non-porous surfaces — and they’re also certified by Health Canada.  
  • We use Vert2Go SABER Heavy-Duty Disinfectant and Vert2Go GLASS cleaner in all areas of the club, which are listed as effective against COVID-19 by the Government of Alberta.  
  • There are plenty of hand sanitizing and equipment disinfecting stations throughout all areas of the club 

Sweat Safely

Club hours have been temporarily modified

  • Members are required to wear a mask at all times, including during low-intensity workouts.  
    • Only exceptions: In the showers and during high-intensity training with a personal trainer  
  • All employees are required to wear a mask while working
  • Employees are required to wear proper protective gear while cleaning, including masks and disposable nitrile gloves
  • Book your workout or class up to 7 days in advance with the GYMVMT app. This helps guarantee your workout, and helps us monitor capacity 
  • Protective barriers are installed at all reception desks 
  • Self-scan your barcode before entering the club 
  • Keep your exercises low intensity. The heavier you’re breathing and the higher your heart rate, the higher the intensity of your workout. 
  • If you’re panting, grunting, screaming, puffing, wheezing, or your heart is pounding in your chest, you need to dial it back. 
  • All cardio equipment is spaced 3 metres apart
  • Cardio equipment with fans (like Airdyne bikes and select rowers) are temporarily unavailable
  • Select equipment is unavailable to maintain physical distancing
  • Guiding floor markers have been installed in the clubs
  • Designated sweat spaces are marked in the Group Fitness studios
  • Fans have been removed or turned off to reduce the spread of germs
  • All porous foam or fabric material items are removed from workout areas. Items include, but are not limited to:
    • Blue Foam Rollers
    • Yoga Blocks
    • Yoga mats
    • All ropes (cable attachments, battle ropes and climbing ropes)
    • Bags, Tubing
  • Select lockers are open to maintain physical distancing  
  • Showers are open with limited availability  
  • Steam rooms and saunas are temporarily unavailable  

Access club updates with the GYMVMT app

  • Members are required to book workouts and Group Fitness classes in the GYMVMT app  
  • One workout or class can be booked per day  
  • Book up to 3 workouts or classes at a time   
  • Slot your workout into your schedule up to 7 days in advance or as late as 5 minutes before coming in 
  • Cancel your workout or class directly in the app to clear a spot for those on the waitlist

Group FitnesS

  • Group Fitness is making a low intensity comeback! Get back into some of your favourite classes like Hatha Yoga, Absolution, Barre and more! 
  • Group Fitness will be available at all clubs except for HER GYMVMT Bay Club beginning on March 8, 2021.
  • To help keep you safe, we’ve removed shared mats from the studio. Please bring your own mat to class and remember to wear your mask. 
  • Secure your spot by booking your class with the GYMVMT app up to 7 days in advance 
  • Plan to arrive 10 minutes before class  
  • Please wear to your mask to and from your designated spot in the studio.  
  • Avoid congregating outside of the studio doors  
  • Leave all belongings in the changeroom  
  • Stay on your designated spot for the duration of the class  
  • Bring your yoga mat and accessories  
  • Cancel your class in the GYMVMT app a minimum of one hour in advance so a fellow gym mate can reserve their quality GYMVMT time

Tennis & Squash

  • Calgary Edgemont Squash and tennis courts are open for private and same household lessons, solo play, and same household singles play only

  • All 18 GYMVMT and HER GYMVMT clubs will be open on March 4, 2021.  
     
  • We are saddened to share that HER GYMVMT Century Park is now permanently closed. Century Park members can reach out to (780) 468-2722 to inquire about their membership options. 

Yes, you can! Based on the provincial government’s guidelines, you can hit the gym solo, just keep your workout at a low intensity. If you’re craving an intense workout, you can get a high-intensity session with one of our fitness pros. For information about personal training visit gymvmt.com/training

Yes, a mask is required in all areas of the clubincluding during low-intensity workouts. The only times masks are not required are:  

  1. During a high-intensity workout with a personal trainer. 
  2. In the shower 

According to the provincial governmentit’s all about your breath and heart rate. The heavier you’re breathing and the higher your heart rate, the higher the intensity of your workout.  
 
Exercise at an intensity where you can maintain a conversation. If you’re panting, grunting, screaming, puffing, wheezing, or your heart is pounding in your chest, you need to dial it back.

Absolutely, just mind how heavy you’re breathing. We recommend using lighter weights or adding some resistance when you hit the cardio machines for a solid, steady “low intensity” workout. 

Please use your best judgement to keep your workout low intensity — we know that this doesn’t look the same for everyone and depends on where you’re at in your fitness journey. If it looks like you’re breathing too hard, our team will be hittin’ the floors to let you know and help you #practicesafefitess. 

Group Fitness is making a comeback with low-intensity classes like:

If you’re craving some of our high-intensity classes like Zumba, HIIT & Core, and Cycle, check out GYMVMT GO — our online fitness streaming platform. Stream your favourite classes and instructors live and on-demand anytime, anywhere! 

  • We have temporarily adjusted club hours and will revisit returning to regular hours when it is safe to do so. You can find your club’s hours on our locations pages. 

Here are a few steps you can follow to gain access:

  1. Make sure you have the latest version of the GYMVMT app. Update the app through the Apple Store or Google Play.
  2. The GYMVMT app is a member-exclusive portal and is integrated with our internal customer management software. The email you use to log into the app must match the email we have in our system. If you’re unsure which email that is or you are not able to book your workout, please email [email protected] so we can take a closer look.                                                                                     
  3. If you are a new member, our system automatically created an account in the GYMVMT app for you. Check your inbox for an enrolment email from MyWellness cloud (don’t forget to check your junk mail folder).

  • Don’t sweat it, your workout block is booked for 75 minutes. If you plan to arrive outside of your 75-minute block, please call your club’s reception team and they’ll extend your workout if we have capacity.  
     
  • If you’re running late for your Personal Training session, reach out to your trainer directly or call the club to let them know. 
  • Contact your personal trainer directly. If you do not have their contact information, please contact the club your session is scheduled at.  
  • Due to Government Regulations only one-on-one personal training sessions will be permitted for indoor fitness activities. Locations offering training include: EdgemontTrans Canada Centre and Midnapore. 
  • No, remote training clients can continue to crush their workouts virtually with their personal trainers!
  • We’re working with a smaller team than usual. If your personal trainer has not been recalled yet, we’d be happy to temporarily set you up with another trainer for in-club sessions, remote sessions, or both! Speak to your club’s General Manager or Fitness Manager to make arrangements.
  • Book an appointment to come check out the club! You don’t need to work out, just book a tour to get familiar with our safety protocols gauge your comfort level of returning to the gym.  
     
  • If you’re still hesitant, try out our remote fitness options — designed to help you stay active anytime, anywhere. 
     
  • If youre not ready to keep moving with us, contact your club to discuss your billing and membership options – including account freezes.  
  • Due to government regulations, we can’t accept walk-ins at this time.   
  • If your schedule isn’t very flexible, you can book your workout in the GYMVMT app 5 minutes before a workout slot begins or call reception to see if you can book a last-minute workout.  

Kids are not required to wear masks, as per Alberta Health Service guidelines.

Along with completing a thorough cleaning and disinfecting checklist utilizing certified disinfectants, we have removed items and toys that cannot be disinfected entirely. We have also implemented a “Stop and Wash” program to encourage proper handwashing.
