It’s official — gyms have the go-ahead to open for low-intensity fitness! With your safety top of mind, we’re working fast to implement the updated guidelines and refresh our teams on all safety protocols to keep you safe.
Our doors will finally reopen bright and early on Thursday, March 4 at 5:00 a.m. (West Edmonton Mall club at 6:00 a.m.) at all 18 GYMVMT and HER GYMVMT clubs in Calgary and Edmonton.
Low-intensity Group Fitness classes will resume on Monday, March 8.

Yes, you can! Based on the provincial government’s guidelines, you can hit the gym solo, just keep your workout at a low intensity. Yes, a mask is required in all areas of the club, including during low-intensity workouts. The only times masks are not required are:
According to the provincial government, it’s all about your breath and heart rate. The heavier you’re breathing and the higher your heart rate, the higher the intensity of your workout.
Exercise at an intensity where you can maintain a conversation. If you’re panting, grunting, screaming, puffing, wheezing, or your heart is pounding in your chest, you need to dial it back.
Absolutely, just mind how heavy you’re breathing. We recommend using lighter weights or adding some resistance when you hit the cardio machines for a solid, steady “low intensity” workout.
Please use your best judgement to keep your workout low intensity — we know that this doesn’t look the same for everyone and depends on where you’re at in your fitness journey. If it looks like you’re breathing too hard, our team will be hittin’ the floors to let you know and help you #practicesafefitess.

Along with completing a thorough cleaning and disinfecting checklist utilizing certified disinfectants, we have removed items and toys that cannot be disinfected entirely. We have also implemented a “Stop and Wash” program to encourage proper handwashing.
